Finnish Helicopter operator, Helsinki Citycopter expands operations into business jet sector
February 8, 2024:Helsinki Citycopter is expanding its fleet with a business jet. The Cessna Citation CJ4 purchased from Germany is the most performance-oriented business jet in its class, enabling fast and cost-effective operations within Europe. With the addition of the new aircraft, operating under the ACXJet brand, the airline's fleet will grow to include five helicopters and one business jet. Helsinki Citycopter, officially known as Aerocom Aviation Ltd., operates its own flight school, aircraft hangar and charter flight from the biggest cities of Finland, Helsinki and Tampere.
Founded in 2020, Helsinki Citycopter has experienced strong and profitable growth. From a business idea born in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has quickly become one of the most diverse and fastest-growing airlines in Finland. As the only airline in Finland to operate both helicopters and a business jet, it also trains pilots to meet the future needs and requirements of aviation.
The introduction of Finland's first Cessna Citation CJ4 into Helsinki Citycopter's fleet enables the company to expand its operations internationally. This jet aircraft, with nine passenger seats, has a top speed of 835 km/h and a maximum range of 4,010 kilometres. The maximum cruising altitude of the aircraft is 45,000 ft. The CJ4 model was first introduced in 2006, with deliveries from Cessna's factory in Kansas, USA, starting in 2010. The market price for a new CJ4 is approximately USD 12.5 million. The CJ4 acquired by Helsinki Citycopter from Germany is a 2015 model.
"The aircraft stands out from its competitors due to its performance, low operating costs, long range and excellent safety record," says Ari Kallinen, the co-founder and flight operations manager at Helsinki Citycopter. "We are now the only airline in Finland capable of operating door-to-door air services with both helicopters and a business jet."
For Citycopter, acquiring a business jet means improved services and the opportunity to develop luxury travel within Finland and abroad.
"Customised luxury travel experiences are the fastest-growing category in international tourism. This also includes private flights, which many business travellers have switched to. In the aftermath of the pandemic, many airlines have reduced services and raised prices, making private flights a cost-effective alternative for first-class travel," says Joonas Nurmi, co-founder and commercial director of Helsinki Citycopter. "Expanding our business is part of our strategy to prepare for the electric future of aviation and air travel."
With the introduction of the new aircraft, Helsinki Citycopter will provide comprehensive customer service, including travel arrangements and destination bookings, both within Finland and internationally. The company's travel concierge service enables experiences beyond the moment of landing and opens doors to places that travelers would not otherwise have access to.
