Horizon Air Group finds synergy in chartering and selling jets

Dallas, Texas-based brokerage Horizon Air Charter has branched out into aircraft sales and acqui-sitions, operating under the umbrella of Horizon Air Group. One month into the job, newly appointed sales president of Horizon Aircraft Sales Randall Mize has already closed a transaction worth upwards of $14m on what he claims is the world's first preowned Citation X+ sale.

Horizon Air Group founder and CEO Luis Barros says: “To see our firm grow so quickly not only in size and capability, but with the right people and approach, is really an amazing thing. We are immensely proud of what we've built so far and are eagerly working toward bringing a new level of expertise and service to the local and national business aviation space.”

Barros explains how the relationship with Mize came about: “Randall and I have worked together for about five years, liaising with each other on behalf of those charter clients who were just starting to explore the possibility of ownership. As a charter broker you have to spend all your time mast- ering and knowing the charter business, but the sales and acquisition side is a whole other animal. Randall has years of sales experience, and he did Part 135 management before that, so he is well placed to advise on the costs of ownership. For some clients it makes financial sense to get into ownership once they reach certain flying hours, but others really need to stay with chartering.”

Mize adds: “I couldn't be more excited to join the team at Horizon Air Group. The assembly of industry professionals is very impressive and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's on the horizon for us, if you'll pardon the pun.”

Within this expansion the group is offering private aircraft manage-ment and aviation consulting, and is preparing to move into markets in California, Miami and New York.

Most recently, Mize was approached by US TV network AWE to take part in its documentary series 'Selling Jets', which walks viewers through the private jet sales process and takes a look at the day-to-day charter side of the business.
