Skandia Challenger 600 soundproofing kit gains TCCA approval

October 26, 2026

Final approval from Transport Canada Civil Aviation has cleared Canadian operators, MROs and completion centres to install the kit, which lowered cabin noise by an average of 3.1 dB(SIL) in flight testing.

The Challenger 600 series joins Skandia soundproofing systems covering more than 80 aircraft models.

Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) has granted final approval for Skandia’s acoustic soundproofing kit for the Bombardier Challenger 600 series. In flight testing, the kit lowered cabin noise by an average of 3.1 dB(SIL) from forward cabin to aft cabin.

The approval allows Canadian operators, MROs and completion centres to install the kit on the Canadian-built Challenger. FAA and EASA operators have been able to install it since 2022.

Skandia engineered and tested the kit in-house using its own acoustic materials. A 3.1 dB reduction roughly halves cabin sound energy, with minimal added weight.

The kit is modular, allowing operators to select individual treatments according to their own budget and maintenance schedule. Options are skin damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, an overframe blanket and floor damping with carpet pad. The kit is turnkey and ships with installation schematics and instructions. Skandia can also measure noise in an operator’s own cabin during a flight and recommend which materials will be most effective.

Manny Valtierra, site manager at Skandia, says: “Our à la carte approach means every operator can build the right solution for their aircraft and their passengers.”

The Challenger 600 series kit joins Skandia’s soundproofing systems for more than 80 aircraft models. The range covers turboprops such as the King Air 200 and Pilatus PC-12 as well as large-cabin jets. Skandia also offers acoustic consultation and custom solutions for aircraft of any size.
