The organisation operates 25 aircraft and employs approximately 75 full- and part-time team members across five locations in Kansas City, Clinton, St. Joseph and Columbia, Missouri, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A group of northwest Missouri pilots, aviation educators, business operators, investors and aviation enthusiasts has acquired a controlling interest in ATD Flight Systems, bringing new local ownership to one of Kansas City's longest-established charter and flight training organisations.
Northwest Missouri Aero Group, led by St. Joseph-based managing partner Lute Atieh, completed the transaction in June.
Founded in 1996 by Bill Hays, ATD Flight Systems serves as the parent organisation for ATD Air Charter, an FAA Part 135 on-demand jet charter operator; ATD Aircraft Management; and ATD Pilot Training, an FAA-approved Part 141 flight training organisation. ATD has operated its Part 141 school and held its Part 135 air-carrier certificate for over 20 years.
Following the transaction, the combined organisation operates 25 aircraft and employs approximately 75 full- and part-time team members across five locations in Kansas City, Clinton, St. Joseph and Columbia, Missouri, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The expanded organisation includes FlyTech, the St. Joseph flight school founded by Atieh in 2023, and the group's Clinton location.
Hays has retired after nearly three decades of leadership. His daughter, Keara Neifach, who has led ATD for the past five years, remains part of the ownership group and will continue working alongside Atieh and the new partners as the company enters its next phase of growth.

ATD's charter and aircraft management expertise is currently focused on Citation products, including XLS+ and CJ-series aircraft. The company has developed the pilot experience, training resources and in-house maintenance capabilities needed to fly, manage and support these aircraft.
The Pilatus PC-12 will be the next aircraft platform added to ATD's operating model, expanding its ability to serve missions requiring efficiency, range and access to smaller airports. Over the coming years, ATD also expects to evaluate a third aircraft family in the large-cabin, long-range category to accommodate international travel.
Northwest Missouri Aero Group plans to expand ATD's aircraft availability to meet growing regional demand while maintaining its personalised approach to charter customers and aircraft owners.
ATD Air Charter operates flights directly under its own FAA Part 135 air-carrier certificate rather than acting solely as a charter broker. All ATD charter pilots are full-time company employees, and every charter flight is operated with two pilots.
ATD's in-house pilot training and maintenance capabilities give the company greater control over crew standards, maintenance planning and aircraft readiness. This integrated model improves uptime, reduces outside handoffs, helps control costs and simplifies the experience for charter customers and aircraft owners.
Northwest Missouri Aero Group expects to announce additional aircraft, service and training initiatives as its plans are finalised.
