Twin engine redundancy, all weather capability and advance avionics, in addition to high efficiency, make the Diamond DA42 a standout in its field. Business owner Charlie ‘Cappy’ Capozzolo is suitably impressed.
Contrail has been flying its Diamond DA42 for the better part of a year, and reports that the aircraft is performing exceptionally well. “I am thrilled to report that it has not let me down in any capacity,” states Charlie ‘Cappy’ Capozzolo, chief pilot of the Pennsylvanian Part 135 operator. “It is a unique experience to fly in an aircraft with a panoramic wrap around window, which makes one feel he is in his personal, comfortable snow globe. Once one is situated in the cockpit, a sensation of cosiness abounds. These features are all just icing on the cake. The practical side of this amazing aircraft is just as noteworthy. For example, the twin engine redundancy, all weather capability and advance avionics, in addition to its high efficiency, make this machine a standout in its field.”
Cappy recognised from day one that the Diamond DA42 would allow Contrail to execute a large percentage of its total flight portfolio. In particular, these portions of the portfolio include, but are not limited to: life-saving organ flights, light freight flights, shorter passenger flights and sightseeing flights. It allows versatility, which coincides with economic efficiency. This aircraft, as well as a TBM 850 turboprop, are owned and operated exclusively by Contrail, therefore there are no scheduling conflicts with owner trips.
He continues: “With the fuel efficient nature of the DA42, the ability to bid trips competitively is a definite reality and obvious advantage. This, along with the unique and desirable design, entices clients to choose this particular airplane when considering a charter with Contrail. Being environmentally favourable because of its very low fuel burn and its usage of jet fuel rather than leaded avgas is a definite advantage.
“The great features of this twin engine aircraft are many. Although difficult to name my favourites, I have chosen three that stand out. They are its safety rating, its fuel efficiency and its modern design. The safety rating is number one among available twin engine aircraft. The second favourite feature in my mind is its fuel efficiency. The price of fuel is very unstable to say the least, which emphasises the importance of this feature. The third component that allows this aircraft to stand out in a crowded field is its unique, modern design. It welcomes and deserves compliments. Along with its unique design comes sweeping views through expansive windows. Having flown numerous large and small aircraft with which to compare the Diamond DA42, I must say its flying qualities are exceptional and it is truly a pleasure to fly.”
An ambition of Cappy's, as the owner and operator of Contrail, is to continue providing successful aircraft charter operations using and enjoying the Diamond DA42. His hope is that the nature of the trips in which he will partake will align with the best usage of the aircraft.
