FAA and EASA grant approval to Enstrom's 480B

April 27, 2026

This announcement follows the 2025 approval of Enstrom's crash resistant fuel system, which was the final hurdle restricting sales. The new model is designed to minimise the risk of post-impact fuel fires during crashes.

Deliveries could commence as early as July.

Enstrom Helicopter Corporation's turbine-powered 480B helicopter has achieved full regulatory compliance with the FAA and EASA, meaning Enstrom is now ready to begin arranging delivery. Aircraft 5261 is the first new 480B built and signed off on for full airworthiness, and it is available to be sold anywhere in the world.

This announcement follows the late 2025 approval of Enstrom's crash resistant fuel system, which was the final hurdle restricting sales. The new model is designed to minimise the risk of post-impact fuel fires during crashes.

Senior vice president of product, sales and customer excellence Charles Wade says: “This is a major step in our journey back to prominence in the light helicopter market. Customers have been very patient with us as we made every effort to ensure safety and compliance, and we greatly appreciate that.”

Wade said the next step is to make the optional glass panel upgrade available for all factory-new 480B helicopters. The state-of-the-art upgrades include a Garmin G500H avionics display, GTN digital audio radios, ADSB In/Out surveillance and Howell engine indication.

“We've already received many inquiries, and the majority of these certainly lean into wanting the latest technology,” he continues. “We anticipate deliveries of helicopters with this technology to begin in October 2026.”

Enstrom is also nearing completion on ensuring adherence to fuel system mandates for its piston-powered 280FX. “Our engineering team is working very closely with the FAA to push this project across the finish line. We are expecting to perform FAA flight tests in May 2026, which would mean we could be ready to deliver factory-new 280FX aircraft as early as July 2026,” confirms Wade.

The initial aircraft will feature a legacy round dial instrument cluster and a Garmin GTN radio stack. Enstrom is working to incorporate the Garmin G500H seven inch portrait display into the 280FX, but a completion date is not ready to be announced.

With new aircraft ready to deliver, Wade believes it is more important than ever to build up a network of Enstrom-authorised service centres and dealers to support the fleet. Anyone interested in becoming an Enstrom partner should contact Enstrom's product support team today.
