The partnership brings low-orbit satellite internet into piloted aircraft to support passenger connectivity and operational communications in urban flights.
Archer is working with Starlink to introduce high-speed satellite connectivity into its Midnight electric air taxi, marking Starlink’s entry into the emerging air mobility segment.
The agreement provides for installation of Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite internet system into Midnight aircraft for testing and operational use. The system is intended to deliver low-latency connectivity during air taxi operations, supporting both passenger access and aircraft communications.
Midnight is Archer’s piloted electric aircraft configured for up to four passengers and designed to operate with lower noise and emissions than a helicopter. The aircraft incorporates 12 engines and propellers within a redundant architecture aimed at achieving safety levels comparable with commercial airliners.
Archer plans to use the Starlink system not only for passenger connectivity but also to enable communication between the aircraft, pilots and engineering teams on the ground. The companies also intend to collaborate on connectivity solutions that could support future autonomous aircraft development.
Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit constellation differs from conventional aircraft connectivity systems that depend on ground infrastructure or geostationary satellites. The network is engineered to provide high-bandwidth coverage at altitudes of around 1,500ft and within dense urban areas where cellular service can be inconsistent.
