GlobeAir closes August 2018 as market leader in VLJ segment

September 19, 2018:

With a 16,03% year-over-year increase in operated flights from January 1st to August 31st and a remarkable 23% increment during the past summer, GlobeAir has confirmed its status of market leader in the very light jets (VLJ), in August 2018.

“This season we have registered a remarkable increase in last-minute bookings, with customers inquiring for flights 14 hours before take-off. The most requested summer destinations have been the Côte d'Azur and the Balearic Islands, with Ibiza, Palma, Figari and London as the most challenging airports to find slots,” says Jonathan Berdoz, VP sales and marketing at GlobeAir. “This fairly unprecedented approach to bookings sheds new light on the behaviour of last-minute travellers.”

The full ownership of a fleet of 16 Citation Mustang jets gives GlobeAir the advantage of flexibility when it comes to planning last-minute flights over more than 1,500 airports in Europe, as well as making it possible to react to changes in the flight schedule.

Bernhard Fragner, CEO of GlobeAir asserts: “The Citation Mustang satisfies our high standards for performance and safety. We are proud to have the world's largest fleet of this type of aircraft, and we are thinking about expanding the fleet to meet the demand of a growing market.”

GlobeAir reveals that operations have seen a significant growth last April 2018, perhaps due to the confluence of positive external factors like low competition and the favourable financial outlook of the luxury travel industry. The trend stayed stable until last August 2018, when GlobeAir became the market leader with a peak of 51% of market share in the VLJ segment.

“There is a growing amount of frequent fliers who request our premium services because of the added value that they provide to their life and time management. Customers cease to become price sensitive when they recognise how we can help them be efficient,” adds Mr Berdoz.

GlobeAir registered 6,021 logged flights from January 1 to August 31, 2018, averaging one and 16 minutes. According to the company, the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland are the top departure countries with rises of 31%, 26% in departures and 22% compared to 2017. These are also the countries with the most significant amount of cross-border revenue flights. Nice, Paris, Geneva, on the other hand, are the most popular destinations in the first eight months of this year, and Friday and Sunday are the busiest days for travel, with an average of more than 40 flights per day.
