Oliver King says leisure demand to the Med is driving high request volumes at Avinode

Avinode records half-million charter quote requests in one month

June 2017 was a record month for online marketplace Avinode, which surpassed half a million charter requests for the first time. More than 532,000 requests were recorded worldwide, while the year-on-year number increased by 27 per cent in EMEAA and by 112 per cent in the US.

Acting CEO Oliver King says: “Across the business aviation industry operators are reporting a hike in business for June 2017 versus June 2016, which is great news for the industry. There has also been much discussion regarding an upturn in the economic outlook for the eurozone countries. This June in the Avinode Marketplace, in the eurozone countries alone, we have seen a YOY increase of 30 per cent. France is up 10 per cent and Malta has also seen a significant increase of 300 per cent in bookings, driven largely by operators relocating to the Maltese registry. And Spain, up 76 per cent, is showing that the green shoots that appeared last summer have taken root.

“For the summer months, leisure demand to the Mediterranean is really driving the increase this year,” continues King. “Popular destinations such as the Cote d'Azur, Ibiza and Mykonos are all up on last year. Business aviation has not yet returned to its highest levels that were recorded pre-recession, but the Avinode Marketplace has seen strong growth in the US, which is now being matched by a positive upturn in Europe, leaving us excited about the foreseeable future for the industry.”
