Richard Mumford will guide relations between BACA members and the Brexit movement to ensure the best outcome for the air charter industry

BACA promises support throughout Brexit

The result of the UK referendum has seen a number of organisations and commentators questioning the future implications for the aviation industry. The advice from BACA is that currently very little has changed so business can carry on as normal. Dramatic fluctuations in the financial sector are a concern, particularly if this leads to a slowdown in the corporate aviation sector. However, the very nature of the aviation industry relies on the movement of aircraft and passengers across borders and so long as this remains the case there should, in theory, be little need for concern.

BACA wishes to reassure its members that it will be vigilant in monitoring every aspect of Brexit and the implications for the air charter and aviation industry. As a global association, BACA represents its members worldwide and will support and inform the industry more than ever as the Brexit negotiations proceed.

Our members are highly specialist brokers, operators and other market participants who will use their skills and experience to serve flying customers at the highest levels of market conduct. In periods of market and regulatory change, the inevitable uncertainty makes it more important than ever to work with real market experts. I have every confidence in our members to maintain market standards and to keep the market flying so now, more than ever, the BACA badge will offer true value to our members' customers. We hope that the UK government will, in turn, demonstrate its confidence in our vital aviation market by investing the necessary resources to increase our airport runway capacity and to enable the CAA and others to lead the process of seamless transition into the new relationship between the UK and Europe.

While these may prove to be uncertain times I can assure you that BACA will be closely monitoring developments and their implications for our industry. We will be working and co-ordinating with our members and other organisations at every step in the process. It is more important than ever that we work together to deliver the best possible outcome for our members and for the international air charter industry.

Now onto BACA's awards ceremony which is taking place at London Guildhall on Wednesday, 19 October. We have introduced two new awards in order that the event remain reflective of current industry trends; one for Aircraft Manufacturer of the Year and one for Young Person of the Year. Additionally, new sponsors have been kind enough to demonstrate their support and along with other innovations, this should be the most inclusive and compelling awards lunch so far.

In the meantime, BACA will have a booth at ACE'16, the Air Charter Expo, and we look forward to sharing ideas and conversations with you there at London Biggin Hill airport on Tuesday, 13 September.
